The Physiological Society of Japan(PSJ) Awards
Promotion Award of the Physiological Society of Japan for Young Scientists (Promotion Award of PSJ)
In 1999, PSJ established an award to honor junior members for their research activities in the field of the physiological sciences. Awardees will be selected from the nominated candidates. Eligible applicants must have been a member of PSJ for more than 3 years and be less than 39 years old at the end of the year.
Hiroshi and Aya Irisawa Memorial Promotion Award for Young Physiologists (Irisawa Memorial Young Physiologists’ Award)
PSJ established the Hiroshi and Aya Irisawa Memorial Award for Young Physiologists in 2010 with the aim of encouraging young physiologists engaged in original and pioneering basic research. To make it clear that the award is intended for the younger generation, it was renamed the Hiroshi and Aya Irisawa Memorial Promotion Award for Young Physiologists in 2025.
Hiroshi and Aya Irisawa Memorial Award for Excellent Papers in The Journal of Physiological Sciences(Irisawa Award)
Each year PSJ offers an award to the author(s) of outstanding papers published in the Journal of Physiological Sciences (formerly the Japanese Journal of Physiology). This award is named in honor of Dr. Hiroshi Irisawa, a well-known cardiac physiologist. Based on the Hiroshi Irisawa Fund, the award is sponsored by PSJ. Its purpose is to promote the contribution of high-quality papers particularly those written by junior members of the Society. The selection of the award is the responsibility of the selection committee, whose members are JPS Editors and Officers of PSJ. (In 2010, the award was renamed for the memory of Dr. Aya Irisawa who passed away in 2009.)
Aya Irisawa Memorial Promotion Award for Women Physiologists (Aya Irisawa Award)
In 2010, PSJ established the Aya Irisawa Memorial Promotion Award for Women Physiologists. This award was created using funds bequeathed by the late Dr. Aya Irisawa—a pioneering female researcher in physiology who devoted many years to research and dedicated herself to nurturing the next generation—and is intended to promote and encourage the research of outstanding female physiologists who continue their work regardless of their circumstances, in accordance with Dr. Irisawa’s wishes.
Regional Meeting Awards
PSJ organises regional meetings across seven blocks nationwide. With the aim of promoting these regional meetings as a platform for young researchers to present their work, we have decided to award Regional Meeting Awards for outstanding presentations at each regional meeting.
Group Dinner Awards
To encourage early-career researchers, we have established a Group Dinner Award for each field of research.
Application forms for each society award can be downloaded from the Japanese-language "Award" page.
